THE TRUE REFLECTION OF YOU
It’s time to get up and start the day. The first stop is the bathroom. There you are, staring at yourself as you gaze into the mirror.
I have learned that a mirror provides the most powerful connection to the real you. Think about it. When you look into the mirror, it can only reflect what is there.
The mirror never says anything. It harbors no judgment. It is simply there to show you the truth of your personal reflection.
Judgment begins when you start evaluating how you look. Then, a flood of feelings and emotions arise as you consider your reflected image.
It’s funny how you can either limit or boost yourself with the thoughts you produce as you gaze at your reflection. The oddest thing of all is that you may see and judge this mirror image of yourself before you see anyone else – before your daily journey has even begun.
If you feel bad about how you look, that state of mind and blah feeling will probably stay with you all day. Nothing you wear will look right. Nothing will seem good enough. From your hair, to make-up, to clothes – it will all look bad. You know what I mean. You go on your daily journey – not looking or feeling great about yourself – simply going through the motions.
This scene plays out, on average, about 90% of the time with most of us.
Throughout the day, you are in contact with others and you’re still feeling blah. That’s when you start judging other people and mentally begin putting them down to make yourself feel better.
Think about it – when you are on top of the world, you look at others in an entirely different way. The people you judged yesterday are getting compliments from you today.
See how you may sabotage yourself before taking a step into the outside world? You may think, “But Johnny, that’s how I look and feel. I can’t help it. That’s what I experience when I see my reflection in the mirror.”
Think about it deeply from the heart for a moment. One day you look at your reflection and feel blah. The next day you can look at yourself and be on top of the world. It’s not your reflection that changes your mood. It is your perception and judgment about what you see in the mirror that sets the tone for that day – and your life. There, in that moment of truth, you have a choice to make. You can run yourself down by harshly judging yourself or you can choose to focus on your assets and feel great all day. Every morning when you look in the mirror the choice is yours.
How long have you been harshly judging your reflection before the day begins? If you’re like most people, you’ve been doing it for the majority of your life. If you think about it – that’s no way to live.
To be the reflection of real beauty, what I call beauty from the inside – out, you need to let the world see the real you, your true essence. When you can do this, the events of life will no longer control your mood. You will be a passionate, joy-filled person living life to the fullest, without judging or worrying about being judged. Choose to lower your negative view and critical self-judgment by a small percentage each day. Eventually, you will wake up one morning and be excited to see the truth in the mirror.
That truth is realizing that You ARE Beautiful. The reflection you see is that of the most beautiful person you know. When you feel that truth all the time – watch out! I definitely want to be around you. You’ll energize everyone around you because you’ll be expressing your personal truth; the truth of the realization of the perfect you. Every day life will be brighter because you have an elevated view of yourself.
Now it’s up to you. Realize that you are not broken. We are simply going to do some fine-tuning. Then, watch out when the old is made new.
You will fall in love with yourself. In fact, you will want to jump forward and kiss yourself. The truth is it’s already buried deep inside your heart – the truth of YOU!
