How Did I Get Paula Abdul to Say Yes?

Last week, I attended two of the most inspirational and transformational training/events of my entire life and career: High Performance Academy with Brendon Burchard and a few selected guest speakers and Star Power with Paula Abdul, Joe Polish and Brendon Burchard (and I got Paula to say yes to be interviewed for The Daring Woman!)

Have you thought of sharing your accomplishments in teachable lessons and highlights that others could benefit from (that’s far from bragging)? That idea came to me this week after being chosen by Forbes as one of the Top 20 Women For Entrepreneurs to Follow on Twitter and Getting Paula Abdul to Say Yes to Me to being interviewed for The Daring Woman™.Format for Making a Request:  Here is what I said to Paula (keep in mind that I had less than 30 seconds to grab her attention and less than 60 to make my case – I will follow up with her now that she said yes)

First paragraph: Built connection and rapport

Second paragraph:  Showed admiration and gave praise

Third paragraph:  Showed how I could help her accomplish what she cares about and made it easy for her to say yes.

My name is Francine Allaire, Founder of The Daring Woman™.  Not unlike you, my passion and mission with The Daring Woman™ is to inspire and empower women and girls globally become the star of their own life, live their best life and be their best self.

I always liked your music but here at Star Power I saw a different side of you. I was really moved by your life story.  You are the epitome of a Daring Woman.  Your ability to inspire others by turning your setbacks into comebacks and obstacles into opportunities no matter what come your way is nothing short of extraordinary.

By listening to you it’s evident that you’re very passionate about helping people and you’d like to share your message of hope and inspiration with a wider audience.  So I wouldn’t be daring if I didn’t ask you because it’s in alignment with your goal:  Would you be willing to share your story of Living as a Daring Woman with The Daring Woman Community?  Women globally would be inspired by your story.  I understand how busy you are so I would make the process as easy as possible for you.

Teachable highlights:

  1. Being Daring enough to get on the stage and asked – the process is even more important than the outcome – stop holding yourself back
  2. Got crystal clear about what I wanted to ask her
  3. Knew exactly what outcome I was after
  4. Being congruent and in alignment with my passion and purpose
  5. Established Rapport and a Heart Connection
  6. Showed admiration and gave praise
  7. Made it a win – win – win (for her, for me and for the people we both care to impact)
  8. Made it easy for her to say yes
